The Great Commission of our Lord is the greatest plan ever given to men by the greatest Person who ever lived, concerning the greatest power ever revealed and with the greatest promise ever recorded.

The Great Commission:

“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 18-20

I. WHO GAVE THE GREAT COMMISSION AND TO WHOM WAS IT GIVEN?

A. The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who gave the Great Commission.
B. It was given to the apostles and to every believer in every generation.

II. WHAT IS THE GREAT COMMISSION?

The Great Commission is Jesus Christ’s command to make disciples. It involves building, multiplying disciples in all nations so that they will in turn saturate their nations with the Good News and train their disciples to do the same generation after generation. (Matt. 28:19)

III. WHY SHOULD WE DEVOTE OURSELVES COMPLETELY TO HELPING FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION?

There are Five Basic Reasons:

A. Because Christ has commanded us to go and make disciples. (Matt 28:19) If we take our Lord seriously, we must direct ourselves fully - time, talent and treasure - to the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
B. Because people are lost without Christ (John 14:6)
C. The Holy Spirit has created a hunger for God everywhere. An average of one out of two to one out of four, depending on the country, receives Christ the first time they hear the good news of God’s love and forgiveness.
D. There is a great urgency to take the Gospel to every living person before our Lord returns or before each generation dies.
E. In every 0.98 seconds, one person dies. About 3,528 people die in one hour, and about 84,672 die in a day.

IV. WHEN WILL THE GREAT COMMISSION BE FULFILLED?

A. God wants it to be fulfilled in our generation! “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
B. We want it to be fulfilled in this generation!

V. WHERE MUST WE GO TO FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION?

A. We must go to the whole world
B. We must begin in our own Jerusalem (Acts 1:8) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Finally, Jesus commissioned us to start our own ministry (Matthew 28, Acts 1), but promised that He wouldn't abandon us, but would still be there to help us. Make yourself available to the Lord, staying alert to His Spirit as He brings people your path.
