Paul in his letter to Timothy exhorted the young leader with many things that he may able to lead and teach others also according to the grace in which he was called for. One of the things Paul highlighted in his epistle is contentment. This subject is something that is very hard to achieve not only as human beings but as Christians as well. To be satisfied with the things that we have and not to desire beyond what we could acquire is very hard to do.

There is a saying that man has no satisfaction. This may be true but it happened only when sin entered the world. When God created Adam and Eve they know how to be satisfied with the things that God had given them. They know how to enjoy all things with contentment not until they were tempted to lust far beyond what God had set before them. This lust made them to desire more and because of it they disobeyed God.

Lust and temptation are the things that hinder us to be contented with everything God had bless us. Since the fall of man, this work of Satan is the same work he uses to deceive many. With the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life present in us, we are always bound to desire for more. This desire falls into temptation and into many foolish and harmful lusts that will lead man into destruction. This explains why many fall into greediness and corruption in terms of success, prestige, knowledge, wealth and material possessions.

As Christians we are all exhorted to put our passions and lusts into death by letting the works of the Holy Spirit consume our desires. Contentment alone will not do much but with godliness it will gain more. We need the working of God for us to be satisfied with all the things that we received from Him. We need to live day by day according to what God has given us and learn to be contented with all of it.

Let us all remember that we brought nothing in this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out. We need to remind ourselves what happened to the Israelites in the wilderness when they were not satisfied anymore with the manna they received from God and desire meat instead. God gave them what they want but use it to consume them all. Let us all be contented with many things, giving thanks to God for all His blessings that He continue to bestow upon us.
