One of the most important keys to successful Christian living is obedience. God has a wonderful plan for each and every one of us but this plan can be ruined if we become disobedient to His will. King Saul fell into this trap when he disobeyed the commandment of the Lord. God sent him on a military campaign and gave him all the instructions through the prophet Samuel to destroy the entire nation of Amalek. This includes men, women, infants, little children, oxen, sheep, camels, and donkeys. However when Saul got into the city he decided to keep the best animals for himself. When God demanded to know why he had disobeyed, he replied that he was keeping them as an offering and a sacrifice. God told him “obedience is far better than sacrifice.

His intention may be good but he rebelled against God. Because of his disobedience God rejected him as being king of Israel and all God’s plan for him was ruined.

In our lives as God’s chosen people, we too fall into the same trap like Saul. God has given us clear instructions to obey but many times we obeyed half-heartedly. We choose things that we can obey and compromise with other things. The Lord wants our full obedience word for word to all the commandments that He has given us. Even we obeyed some still we disobeyed God. James 2:10 say, “For whoever shall keep the whole law and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Many times we treat disobedience very lightly compare to other mortal sins. But the word of God says, “Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as idolatry.” The consequences of sin when we rebel against God are same when we commit idolatry or engage ourselves in witchcraft, which are all abominations to the Lord. That is why we cannot deal with disobedience very lightly. Disobedience is rejecting God’s word and in return the Lord will reject us also as His peoples like He did for Saul.

Brethren let us all be obedient children to our Father in heaven. God has given us written and direct instructions to obey that will benefit us all. More than anything else, our obedience is what matter most to God. Remember, “ Obedience is far better than sacrifice”.
